Easter with the Homeless

This morning, my youngest son and I served breakfast to the homeless. Our church has a weekly ministry at the park on Sundays. It's called "Church at the Park".

While people eat, a simple church service is given.

I was in charge of sliced oranges. People said "please" and "thank you". Some of them stayed after and helped us fold up the long tables.

"Church in the Park" happens every Sunday rain or shine.

Today on Easter we had about 80 guests. They are from all walks of life. Some live at the park, a few came on bikes, some came on foot with backpacks, 2 came on the bus...

As people threaded by me, I wasn't sure whether to say "Happy Easter" because of their hard lives. So I said, "Would you like more oranges?"

"Happy Easter!" a toothless man smiled.

"Happy Easter!" said a another.

One man went forward at the end of the church service. He said later, "I've been saved 5 times now!"

It was a wonderful way to spend Easter morning.

I'm glad you had such a great experience with your son - what a blessing it was to those 80 people and to your church!

It's wonderful to lend a helping hand like this, my friend. It kind of keeps your mind on others instead of our own problems.

Sorry to hear about C. This thing called life is hard. Hang in there. One day we hope to hear the return of your prodigal son.

In a couple of weeks, we'll catch up with one another. Big hugs are overdue. See ya then and keep blogging S. It's good therapy and so are these friends you have here.

Way to go friend! H. Norman Wright says the best way to get ourselves out of a slump--is to help someone else. There is such truth in that!

I'm so glad you had such a great day--blessing others! May your reward be immediate!

That is a great ministry - and fortunately in California you probably can do it year round (it tried to snow here yesterday) Funny about being saved 5 times :)
