God's Sombrero

In recent weeks, my My husband has been composing a lot of music. He is under contract for 3 CD's of original music. It's now time to record drums, and his favorite drummer lives in the foothills of our local mountains. My husband (I'll call him Mozart) wanted to take a CD up to him so Mr. Drummer could familiarize himself with the music. "I'll go with you," I said.

It seems we haven't been on a date in a year. This would be an opportunity to be alone with Mozart. Well I had forgotten how fast he drives. Then I remembered how little he drives! He usually hibernates in his studio, at home. Fortunately we made it in one piece.

After delivering the CD and some small talk (in Mr. Drummers living room) about cymbals and mudslides, we stepped outside. Mr. Drummer's street is very dark and I immediately noticed how beautiful the stars looked. In front of me, was the constellation of Orion, and behind me, the Big Dipper. Now I hardley ever see those two out together...but that's what happens this time of year. Yet, in a while Orion will drift out of the crisp spring sky, and we'll have the Big Dipper as our host for the entire summer.

Recently my dad sent me some pictures taken by the Hubble Telescope. I love this picture of the Sombrero Galaxy.

Isn't God amazing?

Have you ever seen some of the photos that the Hubble has taken? After looking at these beautiful pictures, I have often wondered....were those pictures touched up? Is space really that colorful? Click here for some facinating facts. colors

My dad, who is now retired, worked on the Hubble. The company he worked for made all the optics for it. (I just called my dad right now to confirm I had this right.)
"Yes, that's correct."
"Do you want me to write anything else?"
"No, that's okay." (He sounded in a hurry)
"So....what are you doing right now?"
"I'm trying to hoist the giraffe up in the air."

For those of you who remember, my dad's latest project is building an enormous giraffe.

Have a nice day. And don't forget to look up at night!

I love the night sky - when you can get away from lights. When I would wake up in the night up in the hills above Kona, I could not believe the majesty of the stars. Wish I could have gotten a picture!

Our clock kit was from Emperor Clock Company. It is a true treasure.

Hi Cousin! It is amazing that you are posting about the stars and I will be posting about my visit to the McDonald's Observatory at Mt. Davis in West Texas just this last Tuesday!!

BTW...what did your dad end up using for the hair in the giraffe's tail?

I appreciate your honsesty in replying to the post I did on insurance. I totally agree with you. If my job didn't offer it affordly we wouldn't have any or would have to pay what you pay because my husbands job doesn't offer it. I see in my job as a nurse so much free health care given to people who aren't citizens that it just irks me that we can't somehow give basic health care to all american citizens.I guess that was the whole point I was trying to make. Thanks for visiting and expressing your honest opinion.

Wow Sharon. How nice first of all that you and your hubby could get out together.

And thanks for the link about the colors in space. I knew God was creative, but that is something I hadn't considered before, all the galaxies he made and how colorful and majestic they are!

And how neat that your dad's work related to the Hubble. I just loved hearing and seeing a different view on space. Next time I look up at the night sky, I am going to be considering the "big picture", not just what my eyes can see...

Isn't it great to know the God who made all this dwells within our hearts?

Much love,
Susan

What stunning photos! Who could imagine there is such beauty hidden in the night sky.

Your Dad is a pretty amazing man...isn't he!

I'm so glad that you and hubby got some time away--he makes music!? How cool is that!

Hope you're doing great....I've been swamped with homework this week so haven't been blog visiting at all. I continue to pray though--and will do so until!
