Good Friends

We've known each other since we were children.

We went through elementary school together...graduated 8th grade together...and we're still together.

We always see one another on our birthdays.

And on this day, we are celebrating (early) my 54th birthday. Goodness! It looks like they're holding me up.

We decided to do something economical. Forget the fancy restaurant. Let's have a picnic.

We are just outside the Los Angeles County Arboretum...and soon we will enter and explore.

We paused to look at this patio and watch the yellow blooms drift down.

We headed to the Baldwin Cottage and noticed how big these old trees have grown over the decades.

The cottage was constructed in 1885.

We stopped to admire the Wisteria draping near an old Adobe structure reminiscent of the days when this land was part of Rancho Santa Anita.

Oh the tiny and beautiful details of God's creation.

We had a very nice day.

Good friends are a treasure. Are you still in touch with any of your childhood friends?

What a beautiful place and such a wonderful way to celebrate your birthday! Happy Birthday to you. . .

My best friend growing up lives about 10 miles from me, both of us still living near our childhood homes.

Happy Birthday...and how neat it is that you three are so close...

The scenery is gorgeous...

I have several childhood friends that I connect with on Facebook...and my oldest son actually married the daughter of two of friends from my teenage years...

How wonderful that you still have these friends close by. I've moved so often that I don't have those connections. But I do have close high school friends that I still see periodically - so thankful for them.

Yes, I am a Nazarene! Amazing that you picked up on that. I've never mentioned that fact in a blog, but have connected with several others who also caught it by things I said. Really neat. Where do you attend?

My dad was ordained as a Nazarene pastor when I was around 6 or so. He was raised in the Christian Missionary Alliance denomination. It has been a wonderful home for our family.

You look good in your straw hat!

Yes, what a beautiful place to celebrate your birthday. Happy belated birthday. How wonderful to cherish such a long & joyful relationship with friends. I really only have one childhood friend left that I don't get to see near often enough as we are both busy with young babies but I know its also taking our friendship somewhere its never been before. :)

It's me again! When commenting on Dawn's post, I read your question to her about being a Nazarene. I also am a life-long member of that denomination. I attend the same little country church that I attended as a child - about one mile from my home. I'm thankful for my heritage and church family. So . . . we have something in common - other than blogging!

I enjoyed reading all your comments!

Thank you for sharing, Glenda, about that you are still attending the same church you did as a child. Wow!

I love the church I grew up in, and I'm fortunate that its not far away. But for now, God has me at a Nazarene church.

I haven't really placed myself in any certain Christian denomination.

Hi Sharon, I loved the pictures of Easter and I checked out your blog
too. Very inspirational - plus the joys of the simple life which
really isn't "simple" but wonderful. When our eyes and heart are open
to God, he fills us with his beauty in nature and the important
things, friends!! Love you, Mom
