Good Books for Young Adults?
Does anyone know of a good book for my 19 year old son? Fiction preferably. He is a good reader. Our son is going through a rough time..just got fired again...and struggling in his walk (faith) and family relationships. He is very depressed. He asked me today if I would go out and buy him a book. (At an earlier time of life he read Left Behind series, Lord of the Rings series...and several Tom Clancy and Grisham novels.)

Sharon - I have a suggestion. If he was into the Lord of the Rings stuff than the book Eragon by Christopher Paolini. Its very similar in content - dragons, dwarves, elves - fantasy stuff. I read it & hubby read it. LOVED it! Just read the second book of the series called "eldest" which was also fantastic. I realize dragon books aren't everyone's cup of tea so I only suggest it if he truly liked the LOTR stuff. I never actually read the LOTR but loved each & every movie. They HAVE made Eragon into a movie because the book was such a best-seller but if he's seen the movie he may not be interested in the book because the movie was SO poorly done. Hubby bought me the book for Christmas on a whim that I might like it. I did! He did too.
I also loved all the Left Behinds, Randy Alcorns & good mysteries but I can't say I have a clue of the tastes of a 19 yr old boy, other than maybe Eragon!
Just my two cents anyways!
I'm going to read Eragon some time this year. It's on my TBR (to be read) list.
Fory Cody, how about the C. S. Lewis trilogy: "Out of the Silent Planet," "Perelandra," and "That Hideous Strenght."
He'll love them.

I have a fifteen-year-old son who is a big reader. (reads at an adult level, Lord of the Rings, Eragon, & Christian fantasy, sci-fi, etc.) Are you looking for a fiction book or a non-fiction book? Something with take-away value or purely entertainment? I can ask my son for his suggestion if I know what direction your leaning.
That's wonderful that you son loves to read. Cody would want entertainment...fiction. He likes adventure. He's read The Hunt For Red October 3 times. Thanks for asking...
Hey Cousin CB, we have something else in common, our sons love to read! I will ask Tony if he has any suggestions. He has read all the books that Cody has read and is still reading. I am going to let him know about the C.S. Lewis trilogy that GateKeeper suggested (thanks) and will ask him if he knows of any other books when he and his brother and uncle get back from their Easter dirt bike ride!
